Nearly all outdoor kit will benefit from the right aftercare, so we've written a quick guide covering some of the basics.

"I should wash it? Really??"

For your outdoor clothing to perform at it's best it needs to be clean, so this means washing it probably a bit more regularly than you'd think (yes, that includes your waterproofs too).

We recommend using Performance Wash from Grangers and taking the following steps whenever your item is visibly dirty or every 10/15 wears:

• Use half a capful (25ml) per wash load.
• Pour product directly into the detergent drawer of your washing machine in place of normal detergent.
• Wash on a full cycle at 30°C/86°F or according to care label instructions.
• Dry according to care label instructions.

"It's not beading water off like it used to."

Some items of outdoor clothing - typically waterproof and water resistant items - come with a DWR coating that means water simply runs or 'beads' off the garment.

Over time this coating will wear off and needs to be replaced, you'll know when this happens as the water no longer beads off like it did when new.

We recommend Performance Repel Plus from Grangers, to reapply the DWR simply:

• Spray directly onto a freshly-cleaned, damp garment, focusing more on areas prone to abrasion.
• Remove any excess product with a clean cloth.
• Allow to dry naturally or follow your care label’s drying instructions.

"And what about footwear?"

Just like clothing, outdoor footwear will also perform at it's best for longer with the right aftercare.
