Meindl have been making shoes for a very long time. A very, very long time. In fact, the first shoe-maker in the Meindl family began cobbling in 1683.
Meindl as we now know it began life in 1928, as a tiny workshop hand-making sturdy mountain boots and shoes from a workshop in Bavaria. Since then a few things have changed but they still make boots in Kirchanschöring and they still strive to make the perfect boot for the outdoors.
As well as the leather boots for which they are so well known, Meindl have a great range of fabric, lightweight boots and shoes, including the innovative Gore Surround technology that allows the foot to breath in all directions.
Check out the classic Bhutans for a sturdy and reliable 4 season hillwalking boot that will take a flexible crampon. Or the light but stiff Jorasse for alpine adventures. The Air-Revolution range is incredibly breathable for summer hikes while the Capri sandal is a great amphibious hiking option.
Meindl's fit tends to be slightly wider at the forefoot (compared to Scarpa but less so than Keen) with a narrow, fitted heel, thanks to the MFS (Memory Foam System) technology present in many of their boots, that holds onto the heel and ankle comfortably.
As with all footwear it is best if you are able to try it in store before buying but if you have any queries regarding sizing, fit or our returns policy, don't hesitate to get in touch and we'll be happy to answer any questions.
To prolong the life of any footwear it is essential to care for them appropriately, check out our Care Guide for more information or check the literature of your individual boot.
